I AM GLAD THAT I LISTEN TO MY MAMA AND GRANDMOTHER.........

If someone tells you who they are, believe them.- Maya Angelou

TO ALL THE LADIES

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

FOR EVERYBODY

 Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906)
              We Wear the Mask

WE wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—
    This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
    And mouth with myriad subtleties.

Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
            We wear the mask.

We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
    Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
            We wear the mask!

 PARA TODOS

Gloria Estefan: Oye Mi Canto

Someday it'll be alright
Changes happen overnight

Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto

[ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/oye-mi-canto-lyrics-gloria-estefan.html ]

No buscar explicaciones

Weekend Glory

Some clichty folks
don't know the facts,
posin' and preenin'
and puttin' on acts,
stretchin' their backs.

They move into condos
up over the ranks,
pawn their souls
to the local banks.
Buying big cars
they can't afford,
ridin' around town
actin' bored.

If they want to learn how to live life right
they ought to study me on Saturday night.

My job at the plant
ain't the biggest bet,
but I pay my bills
and stay out of debt.
I get my hair done
for my own self's sake,
so I don't have to pick
and I don't have to rake.

Take the church money out
and head cross town
to my friend girl's house
where we plan our round.
We meet our men and go to a joint
where the music is blue
and to the point.

Folks write about me.
They just can't see
how I work all week
at the factory.
Then get spruced up
and laugh and dance
And turn away from worry
with sassy glance.

They accuse me of livin'
from day to day,
but who are they kiddin'?
So are they.

My life ain't heaven
but it sure ain't hell.
I'm not on top
but I call it swell
if I'm able to work
and get paid right
and have the luck to be Black
on a Saturday night.

LET'S WORK TOGETHER!

Friends and Family --

Right now, there are potential voters in your area -- folks who support what you and I are fighting for -- who will only vote if you reach out to them in these final days.

Maybe they don't know the stakes in this election. Maybe they've heard too many of the lies coming from the other side about what this movement has accomplished.

Or maybe they just haven't been paying attention.

Whether you contact them by Tuesday will determine whether they stay home or proudly cast their vote.

There are thousands of get-out-the-vote events this weekend all across the country, where OFA supporters will work together to reach every voter who needs to hear from us." Its takes the people!"- Papi Perez

As we look at the challenges that the 2nd Ward faces, and indeed those that Chicago faces as well, the next Alderman of the 2nd Ward will need to be someone who can bring people together to solve very real and pressing problems.  Whether it is condo turnover issues or the lack of jobs in many areas of the ward, or whether it is school overcrowding or a lack of school choice, or whether it is an uncertain business, regulatory or zoning environment, or whether it is rising crime or the lack of quality affordable retail stores, or whether it is a city budget with multi-hundred million dollar deficits or an inequitable distribution of TIF resources, or whether it is simply a belief that your concerns are not being listened to or responded to, the next alderman is going to need to bring all parties together, put all options on the table, have an open mind, and do the hard work of solving these problems.

So once again, I would like to ask for your help and support.

With almost 40,000 registered voters in the 2nd Ward, there is much work for me to do to reach as many of these voters as possible between now and February 22.  In the coming weeks, I will be having or participating in fundraisers, meet and greets, coffees, candidate forums, media interviews, email blasts, direct outreach efforts such as phone calls and knocking on doors in all parts of the ward, and possibly a few other nice surprises.  My wish is to get my message out there that "There Is A Better Way!"- Enrique G. Perez

As campaign manager I make a commitment to run a fair and honest race that is responsive to all of the people of the 2nd Ward. Let’s work together to improve our neighborhoods and communities. There is a better way! Vote Enrique G. Perez on February 22. PUNCH#57
